Welcome to our Victorian mews cottage in London
Step through the front door of our Eaton Cottage to find this attractive living room with a study area just beyond. The Herringbone pattern on the parquet flooring creates a warm feel. The dining area is to your right and then the kitchen, which is located in a sunny and pretty conservatory. We named this apartment the Eaton Cottage because of its location around the corner from Eaton Square. It's located in a charming mews, which were originally the private stables for the horses and carriages downstairs and servant quarters upstairs. Most of these original mews houses have been completely renovated into luxury homes and are very popular due to their quiet setting off the main streets and their quaint feel.

Pretty mews house near Sloane Square
The white stucco façade and blue door welcome you to the Eaton Cottage mews, which is located in Belgravia, known as one of the most upscale and chic neighborhoods in London. Before you come, watch some episodes of Upstairs, Downstairs, the excellent television series about a wealthy Victorian family to put you in the mood. The house where the outside scenes were filmed is in this neighborhood. Walk through the streets and you can picture them living in of these houses: from Mrs. Bridges the Cook working in the downstairs kitchen, to Hudson the Butler who rules the staff with a tight hand, to the elegant Lady Bellamy and her Minister husband, Richard.
What's even better is that you're right in the center of London and very near Sloane Square, Sloane Street and King's Road. There's so much to explore in the neighborhood, and the Sloane Square Tube stop is just 5 minutes away, which will whisk you way to all the top spots in central London in minutes.
You'll be wowed by the many shops, restaurants and cafés in the neighborhood. You could spend days shopping on Sloane Street, King's Road and its adjoining streets for everything from high fashion to antiques. The Royal Court Theatre is located on Sloane Square with excellent productions all year long. Two of our favorite brasseries are located on the north side of the square, with more favorite restaurants on the King's Road. Wander up Sloane Street passing many high fashion boutiques towards Harrod's and Harvey Nichols, two of the most famous department stores in London.

Beautiful architecture of the Belgravia neighborhood
The refined and elegant architecture is just one of the many reasons the Belgravia neighborhood is one of the top addresses to have in central London. Most of Belgravia's land is still owned by the Duke of Westminster, one of the wealthiest men in England. He is reported to have an office in the Inland Revenue (Tax) building devoted just to the tax affairs of his estate, called The Grosvenor Estate. It's an unusual system of ownership in Belgravia and a few other areas of London, called Leasehold. You can buy an apartment or home for multiple millions of dollars here, but it is only yours for about 66 years. At the end of that time, you either have to pay a fortune to renew the lease for another 66 years or you have to move out. Several owners sued the Grosvenor Estate and won. In 1993 the Leasehold Reform Act was passed and it is now possible to buy the 'Freehold' of the apartment by fulfilling complicated terms that take years to process. The Duke of Grosvenor was so angry that he resigned as Tory Whip in the House of Lords.
Interestingly, most of the Mews in London are 'Freehold' so when you buy a mews house, you own it outright - as is the case with this one.
The wonderful surprise is how charming and quiet these streets are, while just around the corner you'll find the busy King's Road, Sloane Street and Sloane Square and the "happening" Chelsea neighborhood just a few blocks away! At Sloane Square, shop at Peter Jones, my favorite department store, and then wander down the King's Road for contemporary fashion from Zara to Kath Kidston. You'll be spoiled for restaurant choices along the way!

Fish restaurant London's pretty Chelsea neighborhood
Staying in our mews apartment rental near Eaton Square puts you just a short stroll from the best of London's well-known Chelsea neighborhood, home to fine shopping, trendy boutiques and tons of restaurants such as Le Suquet seafood restaurant.
Another wealthy landlord owns land in Chelsea, the Earl of Cadogan. His is more eccentric than the Duke of Grosvenor and is also a tough negotiator. When Lord Cadogan bought the freehold of upscale department store Harvey Nichols and surrounding apartment buildings in Knightsbridge a few years ago, he doubled the rent overnight, including the apartment of soft porn actress Koo Starck (ex-girlfriend of Prince Andrew). When tenants complained about nude sunbathing on the roof of their building in Cadogan Square, he responded: 'Nude sunbathing is to be encouraged.'
