Our London Apartment Rental

We think our vacation apartment that we call Cornwall is an ideal home for your stay in London and our many guests agree!

This beautiful short term London apartment rental is located on the garden level of a quiet, tree-lined street of white stucco houses, built in the 1800’s. The Cornwall apartment rental faces west and there is a sunny view of the front garden from the living room windows and direct access to a small patio garden. This neighborhood is one of the safest neighborhoods in London, inhabited by a number of Lords and Ladies, well-known actors and politicians. There is an alarm and excellent security throughout.

Our Cornwall apartment rental was fortunate to be featured on The Fine Living Channel as their top pick in London. You can view the video clip on our site.

Enter our London short term vacation rental from the covered side passage of a pretty white stucco Victorian home. You will find the sunny living room is straight ahead. There are two large windows on the left, which open onto the front garden. The garden won second prize in the Kensington Neighborhood “Happy Gardens Scheme” (so very English!) and you will enjoy gazing out on it when you are home. The living room is bright and cheerful, furnished with a mixture of antiques and modern furniture. There are pale cream curtains and matching colored walls. A cream-colored double sofa bed from France faces two comfortable chairs and fireplace. The sofa is an excellent design and comfortable for every night sleeping.

The dining table is actually a marble-topped bistro table from France and sits to the right of the sofa with four chairs around it.

Between the two windows is an antique French writing table, useful for reading or work. There is a free high speed ADSL line as well as standard dial-up connection for those who wish to bring their laptops.

To the left of the white marble fireplace (decorative use only) is a large-screen TV, stereo and dual-standard DVD player underneath so you can bring your favorite movies to watch. You’ll also find a stereo so you can listen to your favorite music and relax with friends and family while discussing your day. On the right side of the fireplace is a bookcase with more storage and dozens of London maps and guidebooks for you to use.

The modern kitchen of this short term London apartment rental is next on the right, with off-white cabinets and anthracite gray worktop. Find a large frig/freezer, a dual microwave/convection oven and dishwasher. The kitchen of this vacation apartment rental is furnished with Italian pottery dishes in blue and white, and all cookware needed to prepare full meals at home. England is ahead of the U.S. in offering excellent prepared foods, from soups and hors d’oeuvres to full meals at all supermarkets nearby. They are easy to heat up and serve after a long day of sightseeing and shopping and it’s part of the fun of staying here to discover the wonderful, fresh foods on offer in the three supermarkets nearby.

Proceed down the short corridor to find the apartment bathroom next on your right, tiled in white with a border of blue tiles. There is a full bathtub and shower, large sink and toilet. The large hot water tank means there is plenty of hot water and you can comfortably relax in a hot bath after a long day of sightseeing.

The London vacation rental apartment master bedroom is located at the end of this small corridor. Find a large dual king bed that can be made up as a king or as twin beds. The beds are new, high quality and comfortable; we love it when guests say they have trouble waking up in the morning! There is a large closet for clothes as well as a pine dresser and a Washer/dryer for any laundry you may have. A beautiful antique empire daybed sits at the foot of the bed, where you can relax and read. WE have installed a second flat screen TV and dual standard DVD player so you can enjoy favorite films in bed at night or watch the news.

The piece de resistance is the patio garden: two French doors open from the bedroom of our London vacation rental to the back garden, where a brick-lined passage leads through two arches to an Italian-style atrium. The patio is full of flowers and plants with old fountain at one end; it is extremely quiet. A small Moroccan table and chairs allow you to sit outside in order to have a glass of wine or a meal on warm days. Without exception, our guests cannot believe they are in the middle of a large, bustling city while staying here, because the garden and street are so green and quiet. They love the contrast of being in a beautiful vacation apartment rental in the center of London , but with the quiet of the countryside to sleep well at night.

The Street where our Cornwall London vacation rental is located

It's believed that the beautiful white stucco houses on the street where our apartment is located were built for Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting in the early 1800's. The 28 houses on the street miraculously survived intact from the terrible bombings of World War II. They are now listed buildings and the exteriors cannot be altered or modified, in order to protect their beautiful facades from any alteration. Because they retain their unique Victorian character, the street has been used for filming movies and TV series of Victorian times.

Some of the houses lost their metal balustrades and balconies during the war, as they were melted down to provide metal for armaments. When America joined the war in 1942, U.S. industrial might made further removal unnecessary. The missing balustrades and balconies are slowly being copied and replaced, but the houses which lack them offer a reminder of all England has survived through over the centuries.

This is a beautiful and safe neighborhood. A number of well known actors and personalities own houses in the area, including Dustin Hoffman and Lord Snowden (ex-husband of Princess Margaret). A number of Lord's who own large estates in the country have homes on the street and use them for 'the Season': Ascot, the Rowing at Henley and tennis at Wimbledon.

The Neighborhood

You cannot beat Kensington for the best of everything in London; you are walking distance to the famous Museum Row, to Kensington Palace, Hyde Park, the Princess Diana Playground, Princess Diana Fountain, to the Natural History Museum, the V+A Museum, the Science Museum, The Royal Geographic Museum from whence the great Victorian explorers set out. You are five minutes walk to the beautiful Kensington Gardens where you can picnic and bicycle. Visit Kensington Palace to see the Royal dress collection and some of Princess Diana’s gowns. You are a stone’s throw to the world-class shopping of Kensington High Street. You can walk through the Park to get to Harrods.

There are numerous pastry shops, Starbucks coffee shops, bistros, café’s and restaurants around the corner and you will delight in trying them all. High Street Kensington is five minute’s walk with trendy shops such as Zara, Urban Decay, Monsoon, Habitat and even Whole Foods!

Hop on the tube at Gloucester Road, 6 blocks away to go direct to the Theatre District, to St. Paul’s, the Tower of London and even to Heathrow Airport.

Our Cornwall apartment rental is one of our most popular and the excellent location is unbeatable.

By the way, we leave lots of London guidebooks for you to peruse during your stay. When you reserve, we send a large information pack with details of the apartment including phone number, recommendations on a driver from the airport, useful websites and itinerary ideas as well as a list of our favorite supermarkets, restaurants, shops etc in the neighborhood. This means you can hit the ground running as you as you arrive in London.

We think you will love our London apartment and look forward to greeting you in London!
