Take a walk through the literary past of Chelsea at Thomas Carlyle’s House

Well, there’s always something to do in Chelsea, and you might just be interested in a spot of literary London history to tide you over one afternoon. If you went back in time  … let’s say to the mid 19th century … walking through the streets of Chelsea around the Pelham you might have just bumped into a chap named Oscar Wilde or a rather striking fellow named Whistler or perhaps even Thomas Carlyle himself. Chelsea was the spot for a group of rather avant garde artists and writers and the area has had a literary tradition ever since. Mark Twain even stayed in Chelsea for a couple of years, and you’ll spot blue plaques a plenty in the neighbourhood. You can visit Carlyle’s House where the philosopher and historian lived from 1834 until 1882.
