On this half-day Urban Culinary Experience you’ll venture into East London’s hip Hoxton, home to an inspiring local food scene. The thriving grassroots movement generates memorable dining and drinking encounters, and you’ll get a taste of the creative action. Think trendsetting chefs and off-the-beaten-track producers.
Highlights include visiting the home of a chef with Michelin-star experience. At Aidan Brooks’ pop-up diner Eleven98 you’ll sample a two-course meal paying homage to his local area Hackney. All ingredients are sourced locally from independent butchers, fishmongers and artisanal bakeries, with vegetables grown on a nearby allotment. Even honey is cultivated by friends.
Next on this four-hour guided tour, you’ll discover a much-loved community garden. St Mary’s Secret Garden combats social isolation and develops employment and social skills, offering hands-on gardening opportunities to locals. A longstanding institution, it also sells healthy produce grown on site to the public.
Drink connoisseurs will appreciate 58Gin, a proudly independent, award-winning gin distillery in Haggerston using traditional copper stills. A gin-tasting session explores its innovative botanical blends and you’ll hear how founder Mark ‘Moonshine’ Marmont set up his microdistillery.
Finally, the tour takes in Hackney’s artisanal Better Health Bakery, providing traineeships for those recovering from mental health challenges.
This tour includes an experienced private guide, two-course lunch with a glass of wine at a chef’s home and gin-tasting session.
The tour lasts approximately four hours.
